Vernis & Bowling is seeking an experienced and ambitious Paralegal to support our Birmingham office’s Workers’ Compensation department. Candidates should have 3+ years of experience as a Paralegal with Workers’ Compensation experience strongly preferred.
Summary:
Assist attorney with standard paralegal services including medical record review and summary, document preparation, working with clients to respond to discovery, and fact-checking through trial preparation.
Duties:
- Draft legal documents including pleadings and motions, affidavits, discovery, files motions, etc.
- Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, requesting medical/billing records and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys
- Interview clients and witnesses and prepare summaries of statements
- Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items
- Maintain docket calendar
- Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings
- Develop and maintain records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred
- 3+ years Paralegal experience
