Bill was born in Memphis, Tennessee, raised in Arkansas and Mississippi, and has lived with his family in Mobile, Alabama since 1991. “My dad was an Episcopal priest so my parents and I moved several times when I was growing up,” Bill says, “and I went to high school in Arkansas and in Indianola, Mississippi.” Bill attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, graduating with honors with a B.A. in History. While at Millsaps he was a three-year letterman in varsity football and was involved in various honor societies. After college Bill attended the University of Mississippi School of Law. In law school, Bill was vice-chairman of the Moot Court Board and participated in the Federal Trial Practice Clinic.
After law school Bill moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi where he was engaged in the general practice of law in practically all areas of civil, criminal, and administrative law. Eventually, he focused on the defense of civil damage claims arising from automobile accidents, industrial accidents, and medical claims involving allegations of hospital or physician negligence. In 1991 Bill and his family moved to Mobile, Alabama, and Bill continued representing insurers and insureds in the defense of damage claims arising from all manner of events from dog bites, fender benders, and workplace accidents to alleged medical negligence, nursing home negligence, and employment claims.
Trial work has always been Bill’s favorite. Over the last 40-plus years he has tried over 100 jury and non-jury cases to judgment in Alabama and Mississippi, and he looks forward to the trial in every case he handles. In addition to damage cases, Bill offers advice to clients on employment-related issues. Bill is a qualified Mediator and Arbitrator and regularly mediates cases in the South Alabama area.
Bill is active in the Alabama State Bar and Mobile Bar Association and has been on the Board of Bar Commissioners of the Alabama State Bar for several years. He and his wife Angie live in Mobile and enjoy trying to keep up with their blended family of five children and seven grandchildren (with more on the way!) when they are not enjoying the Coastal Life or paying way too much attention to SEC football.
