Kelly graduated from the University of Central Florida where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science. She then went on to earn a Juris Doctor from the Florida State University College of Law. During her time in law school, Kelly received a book award for the highest overall grade in her Legal Research & Writing class and consistently placed on the Dean’s list. She also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the FSU Business Review publication, and graduated with an additional certificate in Business Law.
During law school, Mrs. Barnes worked as a Law Clerk for the Florida Office of the Governor and later, for the Florida Office of the Attorney General. Prior to joining Vernis & Bowling, she worked as an associate at a large insurance defense firm. Mrs. Barnes is an active member of the Florida Bar, the Volusia County Bar Association and the Florida Association for Women Lawyers. She is also admitted to practice in the Middle District of Florida.
As a defense attorney, Kelly strives to be a trusted advisor to her clients, viewing every new dilemma and conflicting situation as a challenge to be remedied and an opportunity to smooth the beaten path.
